Dear Student,
Given  data :
Retardation=a
Suppose distance travelled by train1 before collision=S
S=ut+at2/2
=>S=v1t+at2/2

Distance travelled by goods before collision= S
S=v2t

Equating the 2 distances
v2t=v1t+at2/2
=>t=2(v2-v1)/a

Distance travelled=S=v2t
=2v2(v2-v1)/a.
