A particle is located at coordinates x = 2.0 m, y = 3.0 m. What is the magnitude of the torque about the origin when the particle is acted upon by a force of magnitude 5.0 N in (a) the positive x direction, (b) the positive y direction, and (c) the negative x direction?

(a) The figure below shows the particle in two dimensional space with 2.0 m as x coordinate and 3.0m as y coordinate.

It is important to note when the force is in the negative x direction, the particle experiences the torque of same magnitude but the direction of the force producing the torque is reversed relative to what it was in part (a), as can be seen from the figure above.
Therefore the magnitude of the torque experienced by the particle is 15 N-m
