A gun is kept on horizontal road to hit a car moving along the same road away from the gun with a speed of 72 km per hr. The shell is fired from the gun when the car is 500 m away from the gun(Angle of projection of shell is 45 degree. Find the speed of muzzle so that it must hit the car

Dear Student,
suppose time taken by the shell to hit the car is t.
in time t the car will travel 20t m
the range of the shell must be 500+20t
t=2ucosq/g
=>t= u/g

Range of the shell=R=u2sin2q/g
=>500+20t=u2/g
=>u2-20 u-5000=0
=>u=86.25m/s
