Dear Student, suppose time taken by the shell to hit the car is t. in time t the car will travel 20t m the range of the shell must be 500+20t t=2ucosq/g =>t= u/g
Range of the shell=R=u2sin2q/g =>500+20t=u2/g =>u2-20 u-5000=0 =>u=86.25m/s
