a disc is rotating with angular velocity 100r/s and moment of inertia 2kgm^2 .another identical disc rotating in opposite direction is placed coaxially.they continue to rotate.what is loss in kinetic energy?

  • First, we will apply conservation of Angular momentum so that we can find Final Angular velocity.
  • Initial angular momentum=Final angular momentum
  • I1W1  + I2W= IfinalWfinal
  • 2×100  + 2×0   =   ( 2+2 ) × Wfinal
  • Wfinal  =  50  rad/ sec

  • Change in K.E =  ½ × ( I× I2 ) ÷ ( I+ I2 )  × ( Winitial− WFinal )
  • Put the values and get the answer.
  • If you don’t get the answer please let me know.
