A block of mass=3.63kg slides on an horizontal frictionless table with a speed of v=1.22 m/s. It is brought to rest in comperssing a spin in its bath . By how much is the spring compressed if its force constant k=135 N/m?

Dear Sarfraz

The work done by the spring force on the block as the spring is compressed a distance d  from its rest state is given by
Ws = – (1/2) k d^2
Change in K.E = Kf – Ki = 0 – (1/2) m v^2

from Work nergy theorem
– (1/2) m v^2 =  – (1/2) k d^2
d = v \sqrt(m/k)
put all the values and you will find the answer.
