When an ice block is floating on water, the amount of water displaced by the ice is equal to the mass of the ice. Thus when ice melts, the level of water will remain unchanged. This can also be observed for a boat on a pool. If you are on a boat, which is in a pol containing finite amount of water, if you fill up the boat with some water from the pool, the water level will be the same.
