Suppose I cut the Earth into two halves .

Then standing at equator and admiring it as a circle and just divide that circle into 360 degrees.

And I then divide that one degree to 60 minutes.

And a minute of arch is of course i would say that is equal to that 1 Nautical mile.

And it is used for all purposes that is Navigation and Air.
