Gravitational field is the gravitational force per unit mass of the test mass .This is a vector quantity.To find the force on a body of mass m in a field just multiply m with the field.

Gravitational potential is the work done per unit mass as a test mass i s brought from a reference point (usually infinity) to a given point.This is a scalar quantity.

The gradient of the potential gives the field in agiven direction.The line integral of field from one point to another gives us the potential difference between the two points.
