A spaceship of mass m1 moves in absence of external forces with a constant velocity of V. It starts ejecting a gas with velocity u which is constant relative to the spaceship and directed at right angles to the spaceship motion. the engine is shut down when mass of the spaceship decreases to m2. through what angle did the direction of the motion of spaceship deviate due to the jet engine operation.

Variable mass systems are strictly out of IITJEE syllabus. So please stop thinking about this and focus on what is there in the syllabus. In case you do not know the JEE syllabus look up at this link www.iitjee.org/iit-jee-syllabus.html. If you really want to get into one of the top IITs it is advisable to remain within the syllabus only. Otherwise it will hamper your rank.
