well the ans is b option . for this question you must know that when the string is cut the spring force does not change immidietly, so before cutting,at b mg=kx at a, mg +kx=tension now after cutting, at b, mg=kx (as the spring force does not change) at a, mg+kx=ma as kx =mg then a=2g. regards prick
