1-what is the diffrence between average speed and average velocity?

2-plz answer the problem..............

a motor car is going due north at a speed of 50 km/hr.it makes a 90 degrr left turn without changing its speed.the change in the velocity of the car is about---------------------

options:50 km/hr towards west

70 km/hr towads south west

1)average speed is the total distance travelled by a body in a given time

   whereas average velocity is the total displacement of the body in the given time with specific direction

2)its 70km/hr towards south west

because let N-S dirn. say j-direction

& E-W say i-dirn.

hence initial vel=50j

         final vel=50i

& hence change in vel= final- initial

                               =50i-50j

                               = ie 50√2 in south west direction

                               =70km/hr in south west dirn.
