The answer is 0.04.(a.)

Solution:  Let the density of the ice  = D , and the side = A then the mass of the ice cube = DA3 .

If it is floating in water then the weight must be balenced by the buyoant force (Vpg) where p is the mass of the water.

Then Mg= Vpg

=  M= Vp

=  DA3= Vp

Since D/p= 0.96 then 0.96A3=V

Since the base area of the cube = A2 , Then 0.96A3=A2l

Then 0.96 A = l where l is the length inside water . Then the fraction of length outside water is

(0.04 A)/A =0.04
