hi, frist i wud like to clear ur concept of normal force, it is basically the force which a plane exert on the object in the dirctn normal to the surface, if the plane is like sphere, then the normal force wud b in the directn of normal passing thru the contact point. in ur case, the total dwnward force in the direction perpendicular to palne wud b equal to normal reaction. it is irrespective of co ordinate axes, it is not total dwnwrd force.
