A particle is moving along the path y = 4x2 . Find the distance and displacement from x =1 and x=2.
the equation of the path is y = 4x2 so at x=1 y = 4 and at x = 2 y = 16 since this is a square function , the path is a parabola. so we need to draw the graph of the equation and use equation of a parabola i.e y = 4ax in the given function a = 1 so the vertex of the parabola is (1,0) at x = 1 , the point is coinciding with the x axis , and at 2 ,it is above the point in the first quadrant at a point distance travelled and displacement is almost the same !
the equation of the path is
y = 4x2
so at x=1
y = 4
and at x = 2
y = 16
since this is a square function , the path is a parabola.
so we need to draw the graph of the equation and use equation of a parabola i.e y = 4ax
in the given function a = 1
so the vertex of the parabola is (1,0)
at x = 1 ,
the point is coinciding with the x axis , and at 2 ,it is above the point in the first quadrant at a point
distance travelled and displacement is almost the same !
