A point moves rectilinearly with deceleration whose modulus depends on the velocity 'v' of the particle as a =-k√v where k is a constant, k > 0. At the initial moment the velocity of the particle is 'v0'. What distance it will traverse before it stops? What time it will take to cover that distance?

Dear student,

a=-k√v

dv/dt=-k√v

dv/√v=-kdt

Now integrate both sides to get velocity as a function of time.

y does the answer not come correctly if i use the equations of motion here

it is because the retardation is not constant and equations of motion work only for constanr acc.
