Water drawn from a well of depth 10.2m below the open end of a tube of cross-section 0.245sq.cm comes out of the tube with a speed of 40m/s. Calculate the minimum horsepower of motor to be used for this purpose.

The total energy = mgh+1/2mv^2..You will get the volume of water ejecting per second by multiplying the area of cross-section of the tube with the velocity of ejection and mass of the water by applying the formula volume*density (the density is known). Then get the answer.
