A lawn roller in the form of a thin walled cylinder of mass M is pulled horizontally with a constant horizontal force F applied by a handle attached to the axle. If it rolls without slipping find the acceleration and the friction force

Dear Sohan,

Calculate the net torque about the ICR,which is FR (where R is the radius of the cylinder). There will be no torque due to its own weight because it passes through the ICR..Now FR=0.5MR^2@ (where @ is the angular accelaration)..R@=2F/M.So the accelaration of the lawn mover is 2F/M.And friction provides a force of 2F/M-F/M i.e F/M.
