The coefficient of static friction between a block of mass m and the incline is 0.3. of the incline plane with the horizontal such that the block does not slip on the plane? θ / 2 with the horizontal, find the frictional force on the block. Dear kaushik ,

(a) AS we increase the angle the force of gravity along the incline  i.e mgsinθ  increases and the normal component to the  plane mgcosθ  decreases . SO , the maximum angl is reached when the downward force equals the maximum friction force.

so , mgsinθ = µmgcosθ

so maximum angle is θ   = tan-1 (µ)  =  tan-1 (.3) = 16.7 deg

b) when the angle is lesser than the maximum value the force of friction equals the downward push due to gravity ,   mgsinθ/2
