It is true thst the force of friction does not depend on the area of contact of two bodies but it depends on the actual area of contact between the two bodies. Whenever we see two bodies in contact of each other it appears to us that they are completely in contact but it is not so. When we see them by a microscope then it is clearly visible that the actual area of contact of the two bodies is much less than the apperent area of contact. It is clearly visible in the figure. That is why a cycle tube with less air in it has a large actual area of contact with the ground due to which a much larger force is requiredto pull it as their is more friction.
