speed is distance per unit time whearas velocity is displacement per unit time....
speed is scalar quantity and has no direction but velocity is vector and has direction...
eg...
if a body is performing uniform circular motion of radius R then after complete rotation particle comes to the same point so distance becomes 2pieR but displacement becomes 0..
so speed = 2pieR/T and velocity =0
from dis it can be said that velocity may be 0 but speed can never be 0...
