ASsume the following data : initial velocity = u m/s , angle of projection  = x deg ,  range = r metres , height of floor = h metres

as the projectile lands on the first floor , the vertical component of velocity must be zero at the floor .

h  =  u sin x * t ; t = time of flight

t = h / u sinx

therefore , R = u cosx * t

R = h cosx / sinx =  h cotx  metres.
