Sir, I am expecting 185 marks in JEE-2010. My category is OBC(NCL). So what about the future in NEW IIT's as compared to some of good NIT's. Could I get any of OLD IIT's.

Dear Ankit,

Well, 185 is a good enough score if you are in OBC category.. I think you have fair chances of getting one of the old IIT's, may be civil engineering or textile..but It should be worth it..

I must tel you.. that If you get the branch of your choice say Mech or ECE in some of the excellent NIT's then you must not force yourslef to join some of the newer IITs..because some of NIT's have an excellent infrastructure and course structure ... say Trichy or Varangal, or Nagpur.. and infact their placement will be almost at par.. with the new IITs..

But if you get a branch like textile or bio tech or chemical.. or IP.. in IITs like kharag pur or guwahati .. I must say you should go for them.. because IITs have system of structuring your degree according to your interests.. that is.. apart from the Core courses of your branch.. you can opt for coursesaccording to you interests... for example.. a textile major can have a minor degree in computer science along with his major.. in the course of his tenure in IIT...

I hope I have given you a flavour of what you can expect ,once you have the IIT tag... because 70% of the iitians do not work in their core industry... they opt for a different industry.. say finance or management or consulting.. etc...
