Grade 12Marks and Rank in IIT JEE

The qualifying marks for IIT-JEE 2009 MQMR list is given as chemistry-11, physics-11, maths-8. And the aggregate cutoff marks 178. What does this mean? If a person crosses these marks in each subject and has a total of 178, would he secure an admission in IIT as per JEE-2009 cutoff basis. What are the expected qualifying marks for JEE-2010 ?
