Grade 12Magnetism

Consider 2 cases
1.A charged particle is moving with a velocity v beside a current carrying wire
2.A magnet is kept beside a magnet
What is the difference between the two .Why is the force due to the magnet perpendicular to the direction of magnetic field in case 1 and Force in the direction of magnetic field in the second case?

in first case force is given by lorentz force formula which is F=q(v*B). as cross product is involved magnetic force is perpendicular to velocity (magnetodynamics case).the second case is magnetostatic case in which force is along line joining two magnets as given by formula u0/4pi*M1M2/d^2
