Why sigma bond is said to have cylindrical symmetry

Cylindrical symmetry means that if you draw a line along the internuclear axis, then the bond is everywhere symmetric about this line. 
A sigma bond possess this because it is invariant under rotation about this axis. That is to say, if you rotate molecules with a sigma bond about this axis, nothing about the bond changes. In other words, looking at only that bond, if it is rotated, there is no way to determine how much it was rotated by.
