The N-N sigma bond(having 2p-2p overlap) is weaker than P-P sigma bond(having 3p-3p overlap) because of the small size of nitrogen atom as compared to phosphorous atom.smaller size of N atom leads to smaller N-N bonds leading to high electron-electron repulsion. thus, making the N-N bond weaker than P-P bond.
