HELLO THERE!

Let me tell you, that the chromate ion and the dichromate ion are interconvertible.

How?

In acidic medium, chromate ion changes to dichromate ion.
In basic medium, dichromate ion changes to chromate ion.

Here’s the reaction:

2CrO42- + 2H2+ -------> Cr2O72- + H2O (Changing of chromate to dichromate in acidic medium).

Cr2O72- + 2OH- ------> 2CrO42- + H2O (Changing of dichromate to chromate in basic medium).

So that’s your answer!
Thanks!
