Dear Student
As the atomic size increases, the acidity increases as the dissociation of H+ becomes easy. Since atomic size of I- is greater than Cl-, therefore acidity of HI is also greater than HCl.
Hope this will help
Good Luck

The strength of any acid is determined by the stability of it's conjugate anion. Since iodine is larger in size than chlorine so when hydrogen iodide loses hydrogen ion,the negative charge developed on iodine has more space to dwell as compared to negative charge developed on chlorine in case of hydrogen chloride. Since negative charge is more stabilised incase of hydrogen iodide, so it is a strong acid.
PS- Covalency has no role to play in judging the strength of acid
