Which is more stable in free state Cu2+ or Cu+ explain (i am not asking in aqueous state)

Cu+ is more stable than the Cu2+ as its d configuration is d10 and for cu2+ it is d9.
But in aqueos soln. the Cu2+ is more stable duw to hydration energy.
And it can aslo be true by seeing the electrode potential.
