When AgNO3 was treated with 5.08g of a sample of iron chloride, 11.48g of AgCl was formed. 6.51g of another iron chloride gave 17.22g of AgCl on treatment with AgNO3. Show that these results illustrate the law of multiple proportions.

For 1st case, xAgNO3+FeClxxAgCl
1 mol of FeClx gives x moles of AgCl.
56+35.5x5.08mol gives 56+35.5x5.08molesAgCl
56+35.5x5.08=143.511.48
x=2
 
For 2nd case, yAgNO3+FeClyyAgCl
1 mol of FeCly gives y moles AgCl
56+35.5y6.51mol gives 56+35.5y6.51molesAgCl
56+35.5y6.51=143.517.22=0.12
