Quasisteadystate approximation. The quasisteadystate approximation (denoted from now on by QSSA) is a standard procedure in the study of chemical reactions kinetics in situa- tions where certain species have a very short time of existence (free radicals, very unstable molecules, etc.) with respect to other species.

The steady-state approximation is a method used to derive a rate law. The method is based on the assumption that one intermediate in the reaction mechanism is consumed as quickly as it is generated. Its concentration remains the same in aduration of the reaction
