The formula of rist is  is approximately Fe2O3•32H2O
Rust is apparently a hydrated form of iron(III)oxide.

ANSWER

Iron metal does not burn in dry air even on strong heating. In moist air iron is slowly oxidised to give rust (iron oxide).
