what is lcao?

LCAO is a term used in referring atomic orbitals.

 

LCAO- linear combination of atomic orbitals is a quantum superposition of molecular orbits or referring it as a technique to calculate atomic orbitals in quantum chemistry. Here, in quantum mechanics electronic configuration of atoms is described as wave function psi. these are the basic functions in mathematical terms which describe the distribution of e^- cloud in the molecular orbital.
