Cathode ray is a beam of electron travelling in a vacuum tube from positively charged electrode to negatively charged electrode. These are produced when a high voltage is applied between the two electrodes in a low pressure environment( such as in a vacuum tube).
Some of the properties of cathode rays are:
1.They are deflected by electrical and magnetic field.
2. The travel in a straight line and cast Sharp Shadow
3. They are able to produce fluorescence in many substances.
4. Cathode rays are formed of particles this is shown by the paddle wheel experiment.
5. cathode rays are formed by negatively charged particles and they ionise the gas they move through.
