The configuration of CH4 is tetrahedral. So the plane with the most number of atoms in a plane would be the planes having 3 hydrogen atoms in it and also 2 hydrogen atoms and a carbon atom. 4 planes satisfy the former condition and are similiar to the sides of the tetrahedron. And the later condition is satisfied by 6 planes passing through the edges of the tetrahedron and through the center. Hence there are 10 planes in total.
