The number of orbitals in n=3 are 9= n². If n=3 the values of l  are 0,1,2. 0 represents s sub shell 1 forp and 2 for d. Value is equal to k then in values is equal to 2 k + 1. That means m has  values from - l to + l. So hass sub shell  one orbital p has three d has five.orbitals in 3rd orbit .

There are nine orbitals in the n = 3 shell. There is one orbital in the 3s subshell and three orbitals in the 3p subshell. n = 3 shell, however, also includes 3d orbitals.
