Homogeneous Catalysis
A reaction is considered homogeneously catalyzed when the catalyst and the reactant(s) are in the same physical state or phase.
Heterogeneous Catalysis
A reaction is considered heterogeneously catalyzed when the catalyst and the reactant(s) are in different phases.
Enzymes
Enzymes are proteins that function as catalysts in living systems. These enzymes have components called substrate binding sites, or active sites, where the molecules involved in the reaction under catalysis become attached.
Carbonic anhydrase
The enzyme carbonic anhydrase catalyzes the reversible reaction of carbon dioxide and water to form carbonic acid.
Acid-base catalysis
In acid catalysis, the catalyst is usually H + ion , In base catalysis, the catalyst is usually an OH- ion.
