The substances which are weakly attracted by magnetic field are paramagnetic and this is known as paramagnetism.Examples: aluminium, platinum, chromiumThe substances which are weakly repelled by magnetic feild are diamagnetic and it is called diamagnetism.Ex. NaCl, N2O4 etc.

Paramagnetism is a form of magnetism whereby certain materials are weakly attracted by an externally applied magnetic field, and form internal, induced magnetic fields in the direction of the applied magnetic field.
Diamagnetismkind of magnetism characteristic of materials that line up at right angles to a nonuniform magnetic and that partly expel from their interior the magnetic field in which they are placed.
