Group 1 and Group 2 of periodic table comprises s- block elements.They play important role in biological systems.
1.Na+,K+,Mg2+,Ca2+ ions are important componenets of intracellular as well as extracellular fluids.Sodium and calcium ions are found in ECFs such as blood plasma,whereas potassium and magnesium found primarily in ICF.Diseases like hypertension is caused due to disturbed sodium ions.
2.Calcium is necessary for healthy growth of bones.
3.BaSO4 is used as Ba meal in medicine,for aiding in X-rays of high quality.
4.s-block elements allow genetic information to be duplicated.
