Silicon dioxide crystal is an Atomic crystal, unlike carbon dioxide which is made up with molecules. One silicon atom provides 4 electrons, and the oxygen receive 2 electron from 2 silicon atoms, one from each one, while in carbon disulphide, carbon share 2 electrons from one silicon. so that the silicon bonds with 4 oxygen atoms and the carbon with 2 silicon atoms.
