The p-block is one of the most exciting 'neighborhoods' on the periodic table. It is home to the biggest variety of elements and is the only block that contains all three types of elements: metals, nonmetals and metalloids. There are elements in the p-block that are the most essential to life, that are the most abundant within earth's crust, and elements that have just barely been discovered. It is home to some of the snobbiest, nonreactive elements and some of the most electron hungry elements.
The only thing all p-block elements have in common is that their valence electrons are in theporbital. Generally, the p-block elements are best described in terms of terms of element type or column number.
