proceed with same step as we did in redox for finding the oxidation no . 
assume the oxidation number of atom which u want to be x . 
write oxidation no of the other species and equate to 0 since compounds are electrically neutral . 
you will get an expression in terms of x , 
solve and find x and u will get the oxidation no of that species .
