There are 4 alternate edges in a cube. Take any 4 paralell edges, they are alternate. This can be verified by moving on adjacent edges(that share a corner)
There are 2 alternate faces in a cube. & alternate doesn't mean opposite here.
Faces lying side by side are alternate faces.
Further explanation has to be done by using 3 D cube.
