Dear student

Water isamphoteric: this means that it can act both as an acid and as a base.

water is a amphoteric substance which means it acts as both an acid and a base. Lewis acid = electron pair acceptor. Lewis base = electron pair donor. So one water molecule donates the electron while other receives it indicating its amphoteric nature.

Water is just a lewis base .
However ,it is amphoteric in nature it has no vacant orbital to behave as a lewis acid. It simply acts as a lewis base by donating the electron pair present on oxygen.
