First, the derivation for Schrodinger equation is as complex as solving itself, or so I was told. 
Schrodinger wave equation is a wave function. Solving it will give the quantised orbits in which electron probability is present.
The probability densitybof finding an electron is proportional to the square of its orbital wave function
PDensity=IpsiI2 where psi is a Hamiltonian operator.
Pretty sure you didn't understand the above terms so let me explain it in Layman terms.
Tl:dr- It is an equation which, upon solving, gives us the quantum numbers.
