     During the bleaching powder action sulphur dioxide is  convert in to sulphuric acid and two nascent hydrogens.The two nascent hydrogens when react with coloured substance it will convert into colorless substance.

Both sulphur dioxide and chlorine are good bleaching agents. Bleaching action of chlorine is based on oxidation while that of sulphur is based on reduction.
