Graphite is used as a solid lubricant, because it is soft. Due to weak vander Waals forcesbetween the layers of graphite, the layers have sliding nature.

diamond is a insulator but graphite is good conductor because graphite have a free electrons.graphite structure is like a layer lke structure.
