Ionisation energy is the energy required to remove the outermost electron from an isolated gaseous atom. Successive ionisation energy is nothing but the energy required to remove successive electrons from the valence shell of an atom (or an ion). In other words, successive ionisation energy is the energy required to remove the very next electron after removing an electron.
