electron gain enthalpy is the amount of energy released when an isolated gaseous atom accept an electron , to become monovalent gaseous anion . 
if a body have -ve tendency accept , then its called as -ve electron gain enthalpy 
for example – cl , it will accept electron and become cl- 
that means that have -ve enthalpy , 
ON THE OTHER HAND , METALS HAVE +VE ELECTRON GAIN ENTHALPY , 
FOR EXAMPLE – MG , IT WILL BECOME MG 2+ , SO, IT HV +VE ELECTRON GAIN ENTHALPY .
