Can any body tell me how to decide which oxidant would oxidise which substance. Like hydrogen peroxide oxidises iodide. So Is there any general method to detect the oxidising power of an oxidant.

No there is no general ternd for this.
But the Reaction decide what’s the process is happening taht is whether the oxidation is taking place or reduction or both.
And the compund which is get oxidized wouuld be reducing agent and vice – versa.
